Bootcheck leaves Bulls; Archer in line for promotion?

Durham pitcher Chris Bootcheck has exercised an opt-out clause in his contract, leaving the Bulls with a hole in their starting rotation, according to watchingdurhambullsbaseball.com, which cited Durham's radio broadcast.

I'd think Chris Archer would be the first up for a promotion from the Biscuits. Archer has been strong lately and now has a full year of Double-A experience.

Bootcheck, 32, is a former major leaguer who is 3-2 with a 3.57 ERA in 58 innings this year at Durham. He's also a former first-round draft pick out of Auburn.

Archer is 3-3 with a 4.98 ERA this season, but he's recorded four straight quality starts.
