Minor League Baseball apparently turned down Tampa Bay's request for Chris Archer to pitch Friday for the Biscuits in the Southern League playoffs.
Archer has been promoted to the Rays and will join them Friday instead, according to reports.
Archer spent all year at Triple-A Durham, except for two major league starts in June. The Rays need him next week and wanted him to continue his normal throwing routine. Since Durham's season ended Monday, they hoped Archer could make a start for Montgomery.
However, such a move at this point requires approval by Minor League Baseball.
With Archer's departure, left-hander Kyle Lobstein is expected to start Friday's Game 2 of the playoff series with Mobile.
