Renegades force decisive Game 3

Richie Shaffer hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Hudson Valley Renegades a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Valley Cats on Wednesday.

The Renegades forced a decisive Game 3 in the New York-Penn League championship series. Hudson Valley will host the finale at 5:05 p.m. (Central) Thursday.

Tommy Coyle hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to tie it 2-2. Joel Caminero singled twice and scored twice.

Jesse Hahn gave up one earned run over five innings before relievers Jose Molina, Dylan Floro, Alex Moshier and Ryan Garton had a near-perfect four frames. A hit and hit batsman off Moshier in the eighth were the only blemishes.

In the bottom of the eighth, Caminero hit a leadoff single and moved to second on Joey Rickard's bunt. The Valley Cats intentionally walked Coyle to face Shaffer, who was hitting .143 in the playoffs.

Shaffer hit the first pitch over the left-field wall.
