Sunday: BayBears 11, Biscuits 4; Montgomery eliminated

Chris Owings had three hits and scored twice, Jon Griffin and Yazy Arbelo homered, and the Mobile BayBears pounded the Biscuits 11-4 on Sunday, ending Montgomery's season.

Mobile, the defending Southern League champion, finished the semifinal playoff series in four games. The BayBears will begin the championship series at Jackson on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Montgomery suffered the first Southern League postseason loss in its history. The Rebels were 5-for-5 in a six-year span of the 1970s and the Biscuits were champs in their previous two playoff appearances.

The BayBears, after racking up 17 hits in Saturday's 10-2 win, totaled 14 Sunday. They had a .326 team batting average in the four-game series.

Down 3-1 after three, Mobile tied it in the fourth and took the lead on Griffin's two-run homer in the fifth. Arbelo's two-run blast in the seventh made it 9-4.
