MOBILE -- David Nick and Ollie Linton, the 8-9 hitters in Mobile's lineup, scored two runs each in the BayBears' 5-3 win over the Biscuits on Thursday.
Mobile took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Game 2 is Friday at Mobile.
Nick and Linton each reached base three times and scored in the third and fifth innings. Linton singled home Mobile's first run in a three-run third.
With the BayBears ahead just 3-2 in the fifth, Linton made a spectacular diving play that saved two runs. The Biscuits had runners on first and third when Mike Sheridan hit a line drive down the left-field line. Linton made a diving catch to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Nick hit a leadoff double and Linton walked. Both scored.
The Biscuits scored in the ninth -- Mikie Mahtook singled in Ty Morrison -- and had the potential tying run on base with one out. Omar Luna and Sheridan grounded out.
Montgomery also scored in the third when Shawn O'Malley hit a two-out single and scored on Derek Dietrich's double. In the fifth, Morrison hit a leadoff single and scored on Mahtook's one-out single.
The Biscuits had runners on the corners with one out before a foul popout and Linton's catch.
