Trayce Thompson reached base four times, including a leadoff double that sparked a five-run fifth inning, to lead the Birmingham Barons in an 8-4 win over the Biscuits on Sunday.
In the fifth, Birmingham hit three doubles, including RBI hits by Brandon Short and Tyler Saladino, before a two-run single from Dan Wagner. Wagner scored on an error.
Mayo Acosta hit Montgomery's first home run of the season to begin the third inning. Acosta, making his first start, also singled and had doubled home Riccio Torrez in the sixth.
The Barons strafed the Biscuits for 14 hits. Montgomery starter Victor Mateo, who was making his Double-A debut, gave up seven runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
