Tyler Saladino's grand slam highlighted a five-run fourth inning that gave the Birmingham Barons a 5-2 season-opening win over the Biscuits on Thursday.
After Trayce Thompson homered to lead off the fourth, Birmingham used two walks and a single to load the bases for Saladino. He hit a 2-2 pitch over the left-field wall to make it 5-0.
The Biscuits scored in the fifth inning. Kevin Kiermaier singled home Todd Glaesmann and Mark Thomas scored on a Shawn O'Malley single.
Montgomery managed just one baserunner over the final four innings. St. James graduate Taylor Thompson worked the ninth for his first save.
