Morning reading: Coon still grieves friend Adenhart

Today promises to be emotional for Biscuits outfielder Brad Coon, who will both mourn and celebrate.

One of Coon's best friends was Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, who died in an April 2009 wreck with a drunk driver. Adenhart would have turned 26 today, and Coon will call Adenhart's family. He stays in contact with the family, but today's call is a must.

Coon, with those memories, had a tough time this spring, too, when Rays pitcher/former Biscuit Matt Bush was arrested on DUI charges.

Personal side: In 1999, a Purdue women's basketball player from near where I was working died in a wreck with a drunk driver. The toughest thing I've ever had to do was knock on the family's door. The family graciously accepted my intrusion. Beautiful people. The drunk driver got 11 years: eight for killing her and three for seriously injuring her fiance. (They had yet to tell her family about the engagement.)
