Josh Richmond hit RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings, helping the Birmingham Barons pull away for an 8-5 win over the Biscuits in the second game of Monday's doubleheader.
Barons starter Nick McCully worked five shutout innings, allowing two hits and throwing 40 of his 59 pitches for strikes. After Birmingham scored three times in the sixth and four in the seventh, the Barons led 8-0.
Montgomery rallied in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Riccio Torrez's two-run triple. The Biscuits had the potential tying run at the plate with one out before Cameron Seitzer grounded out and Luke Maile flied out.
Barons left fielder Michael Earley homered in the first inning off Montgomery's Grayson Garvin, who was making his Double-A debut. Garvin, on a strict pitch count due to 2012 elbow surgery, threw just three innings and left facing a 1-0 deficit.
