Wednesday: Generals 7, Biscuits 4

Andrew Carraway fired seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball to help the Jackson Generals take a 7-4 win over the Biscuits on Wednesday.

Carraway (3-0) walked one and struck out five. Montgomery starter Chris Archer (1-3) gave up seven runs -- four earned -- in five innings. Reliever Frank De Los Santos threw three shutout innings.

The Generals struck for four runs in the second to take the lead. Nate Tenbrink led off with a home run and Scott Savastano followed a two-out error with a three-run double.

Thompson returns with Stone Crabs

Right-hander Jake Thompson, last year's second-round draft pick of the Rays, is back on the mound tonight for the Charlotte Stone Crabs. He's been out since departing after two innings April 27 with right elbow discomfort.

Outfielder Chris Murrill went on the DL shelf to make roster space.

Price cruises to May BCS championship

Well, at least the Kansas Jayhawks can claim a BCS title now after Bowling Green infielder Robby Price, formerly of KU, finished first in the May Biscuit Crumb Standings.

Price scored 25 points, despite not garnering any first-place nods in the daily rankings. Four seconds, two thirds and fourth and a fifth will do it, though.

Biscuits pitcher Matt Moore was second with 20 points, distancing himself from third-place Alex Cobb with Tuesday's start. Cobb was helpless to aid himself since he started Tuesday big leagues and this is a minor league-only thing.

Biscuits set monthly records for K's, blown saves

Some Biscuits team minutiae for the month of May.

The pitching staff's 229 strikeouts are the most for a month in team history. The hitters had the franchise's most productive month in a while. Their .264 average and .347 on-base percentage was the highest since a .268 and .361 in July 2008. Their 152 runs were the most since a 158 in August 2007.

Oh, it's not all positive. Their nine blown saves are the most, period. For comparison, the 2005 team only had 10 blown saves all season.
