Desmond Jennings' promotion and James Houser's release may be the biggest Biscuits news of the last 24 hours. There was also Biscuits-related movement in the independent ranks since our last "system check."

Outfielder Joe Gaetti, released by the Biscuits in mid-July, has signed with the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League. The Jackhammers also added Vince Harrison in a trade Tuesday.

Pitcher Chuck Tiffany, recently discarded by independent Grand Prairie, signed Thursday with Florence of the Frontier League. Pitcher Steve Andrade was traded Wednesday to Grand Prairie.

RHP Jeremy Hellickson threw six shutout innings to win Thursday and is 2-0 in two starts.
IF Elliot Johnson, who homered from both sides of the plate Tuesday, is 11-for-21 in his last five games. He has a .269 average in 41 games.
1B Rhyne Hughes, with 17 hits in his last eight games, has a .327 average.
RHP Andy Sonnanstine is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA and is 4-for-4 in quality starts.
SS Reid Brignac is hitting .287 with 26 doubles.

2B Drew Anderson is 7-for-19 in three games. He had three RBIs and a home run in his debut Tuesday.
LHP Jake McGee allowed one run in three shutout innings Thursday.

CF Chris Murrill is hitting .299 with 15 steals and 16 runs scored.
