Vero Beach no-hitter

Right-hander Wade Davis threw a seven-inning no-hitter tonight for Vero Beach in a 4-0 win over Jupiter. Davis (2-0) walked one and struck out six. Davis also threw a seven-inning no-hitter last year at low-Class A Southwest Michigan ... and lost.

Davis almost needed some extra time for Friday's feat. The Rays scored four runs in the seventh inning to take the lead.

Friday's gem is the sixth in Tampa Bay history, according to the Rays' media guide. The Rays' list apparently doesn't include combined no-hitters. Last July, Jason Hammel and Juan Salas combined on a no-no at Durham that isn't listed.
