The Devil Rays signed outfielder D.J. Jones of Gulf Shores tonight. He was their 11th round pick in June and had signed with Auburn.
“I’m very excited,” Jones said. “It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a good experience.”
It was the last day Jones could have signed. He had already enrolled at classes at Auburn after negotiations lasted two months.
“I figured they’d pull through on it, but there were some nerves,” Jones said. “I’m not much of a fan of school.”
