Dale Thayer, despite being promoted to Class AAA Durham three weeks ago, clinched an unprecedented third straight Southern League saves championship tonight.
Chattanooga's Carlos Guevara needed an unlikely six saves in the Lookouts' last six games to pass Thayer's 21 but didn't pick up a save tonight in a 5-4 win at Tennessee.
Guevara has 16 saves and can still tie Thayer, though it's quite unlikely he'll go 5-for-5 in the last series of the year.
Thayer had a league-high 27 saves for the Mobile BayBears in each of the last two years.
