Hughes taken to hospital; status unknown

First baseman Rhyne Hughes, hit in the face with a pitch in the eighth inning Saturday, was taken to Baptist South. He lost several teeth, though "one was pushed up into his gums. They're going to try to save that one," Biscuits manager Billy Gardner said.

Hughes didn't lose consciousness, trainer Jimmy Southard said.

The injury comes on the one-year anniversary of the collision that marked the end of Biscuits catcher Chairon Isenia's career.

Thanks for the update on Rhyne Hughes. He was quickly becoming one of my favorite players. It was horrible to watch him go down tonight.
