Enny Romero threw 6 2/3 shutout innings and the Biscuits escaped an eighth-inning jam in Wednesday's 6-3 win at the Birmingham Barons.
Romero (2-1) gave up two hits with four walks and two strikeouts, leaving with Montgomery ahead 3-0.
The Barons scored a run and loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning. Third baseman Riccio Torrez speared a line drive and left fielder Todd Glaesmann banged into the wall for an inning-ending catch.
Kevin Kiermaier and Shawn O'Malley both scored twice, while Mikie Mahtook knocked in two runs for the Biscuits. O'Malley also stole two bases.
