Arhart to DL

Biscuits catcher Josh Arhart went on the disabled list today with a back problem and Matt Spring has been promoted from low-Class A Columbus. That explains why Arhart stayed in the training room so long Sunday after catching James Houser's 14th straight win.

The Devil Rays are starting to run short on catchers. Josh Paul is hurt in the majors after getting spiked last weekend, but can't go on the DL because there's nobody on the 40-man roster available to replace him. Shawn Riggans, who is on the 40-man, is on the DL at Durham and now Arhart.

Spring was hitting .197 at Columbus and has 273 strikeouts in 217 career games.

The Durham Bulls website reports that Matt Maniscalco voluntarily retired as of today.

I saw that. Trying to call Matt, but I haven't got him.

They deserve to run low on catchers since they let their best one (Chairon Isenia) go!
