Newmann to DL; first baseman up from DSL

In a week filled with football, I'll spit out that the Biscuits made a roster move today.

Left-handed pitcher David Newmann went on the disabled list and first baseman Jose Ruiz has been promoted from the Dominican Summer League.

Ruiz is 26 years old and defected from Cuba in 2009. He signed a minor league contract June 4 with the Rays, who have a $4 million team option they have to decide on at the end of the season. In 13 games with the DSL Rays, he was hitting .447 with nine RBIs.

Newmann is on the shelf with a repeat of the hamstring injury he suffered last month.

Now, back to the football.
