Mississippi first baseman Ian Gac, bolstered by a nice series against the Biscuits, won the Southern first player of the week award today, the first award of the season.
Gac was 7-of-19 with four extra-base hits, five RBIs and three runs scored in five games against Montgomery. His 4-for-7, three-RBI Sunday at Jackson gave him a .372 average in 11 games this season.
Jackson left-hander James Paxton was the pitcher of the week. In two starts, Paxton has allowed one run on six hits in 10 1/3 innings. He's walked one and struck out 17.
