Jaso, deep in book, spurts out 'Jaso-ism'

Rays catcher John Jaso was back reading his book today when a television sportscaster asked for an interview.

Jaso peaked up from Harlan Coben's "The Woods" to greet him and had a strange question in response:

"On camera?"

The story caused Rays manager Joe Maddon to laugh about the catcher he calls "Mikie."

"He's got a little Tim Salmon in him," said Maddon, who coaches Salmon with the Angels. "He always had what we called 'Salmon-isms.' I think this was one of those 'Jaso-isms.'"

Maybe, one day at Tropicana Field, they'll introduce Jaso as "Mikie."

"Mikie just has a playful ring to it," Maddon said.
