HUNTSVILLE -- The Biscuits’ first-half championship hopes suffered a critical blow Saturday.
Montgomery’s 15-8 loss at Huntsville, combined with a Jacksonville win Saturday at Birmingham, left the Biscuits a half-game out of first. The Suns and Barons were tied in their second game Saturday night at Birmingham.
The Biscuits trail Jacksonville by a half-game in the Southern League’s South Division. Each has one game remaining on the first-half schedule Sunday.
On Saturday, the Biscuits crumbled early. Huntsville turned a 3-0 lead into a two-touchdown advantage with an 11-run fourth.
Brett Lawrie finished 5-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored, capped by a solo home run in the eighth. Steffan Wilson knocked in four runs, including an RBI double and two-run single in the fourth inning. Chuckie Caufield had three RBIs.
