Baker, Bulls with excellent effort

Brian Baker, making a spot start for the Bulls, tossed five no-hit innings in Durham's 2-0 win at Indianapolis tonight.

Mike Ekstrom gave up a hit to the first batter he faced -- quickly followed by a double play -- and worked two innings. R.J. Swindle tossed two perfect innings to finish it.

Baker (5-0) walked one and struck out five. He issued a leadoff walk in the first and retired the last 15 hitters he faced. Baker has a 3.15 ERA this year and was making his first start.

Baker started in place of Carlos Hernandez, who had a right quad strain. Baker hadn't pitched in nine days.
