The Carolina Mudcats and Cincinnati Reds have extended their player development contract through 2012. They announced it Saturday. That leaves three Southern League teams without formal arrangements for beyond this season: Montgomery, Huntsville and West Tenn.

One has to wonder why the Rays are even taking the chance on getting left to pick between Joe Davis Stadium, Pringles Park, or Wolff Stadium. All it takes is a Major League team offering an ST exhibition game and the Rays are gone.
