Vandy, Tide southpaws state's first picks of day

Vanderbilt left-hander Corey Williams and Alabama lefty Adam Morgan were the first with state ties to be picked in Tuesday's portion of the draft.

They were taken three picks apart in the third round. Williams, who is from Huntsville, went 117th overall to the Minnesota Twins. Morgan went 120th to the Philadelphia Phillies.

A Morgan quote from Alabama ...
“For any team to take me in the third round as their top three picks, it’s just amazing,” Morgan said. “You work so hard all your life for this opportunity. I’m really excited that the Phillies picked me.”

Alabama also had outfielder Taylor Dugas go in the eighth round to the Chicago Cubs.
