2013 Southern League struggled with offense

What's happened to the offense?

Mobile outfielder Justin Greene's .308 is the lowest average for a Southern League batting champion since 1989 when Scott Leius hit .303 for Orlando. Last year, Montgomery's Omar Luna hit .315, which was the lowest since a .310 in 1991.

The league's 10 teams combined for a .243 average and 5,434 runs. Those are the feeblest numbers of the Biscuits era (2004-present). This year's 901 home runs, aided by the Birmingham Barons' move from the cavernous Hoover Met to more-hospitable Regions Field, was sixth. (The Barons hit 47 homers at home this year, 25 more than last year.)
