General manager Jonathan Nelson and the Birmingham Barons won the Southern League's executive of the year and organization of the year awards today.
Barbara O'Berry, the senior director of business administration for the Jacksonville Suns, won the league's woman of excellence award.
The Barons opened Regions Field and drew a league-high 396,820 fans, an average of 5,669 per night. It was a 94 percent improvement over the 2012 attendance at Hoover's Regions Park.
Nelson just finished his ninth season as Birmingham's general manager. O'Berry, who has been with the Suns for 12 seasons, handles Jacksonville's financial accounting.
