Romero won't be winner in his major league debut

Former Biscuits pitcher Enny Romero has no chance of picking up a win in his major league debut.

Romero threw 4 2/3 shutout innings Sunday in the Rays' game against Baltimore, falling one out shy of the required five innings for a starter to get a win.

The left-hander gave up just one hit, walked four and threw 38 of 70 pitches for strikes.

Romero was making his first appearance since throwing two hitless innings of relief in Durham's Sept. 13 playoff game. It was his first start since throwing eight shutout innings in his Triple-A debut Sept. 2.

The Rays lead 3-0 in the sixth.
UPDATE: The Rays won 3-1. Brandon Gomes, the first of five Rays relievers, got the win.
