One Southern League playoff spot will be decided today, the final day of the season. It's advantage Jacksonville when the Suns host the Mississippi Braves today.
The Suns win the second-half South Division race with a win OR a Mobile loss to Pensacola today. For the Braves to reach the postseason, they have to beat Jacksonville AND have Mobile beat Pensacola. Both games start at 12:05 p.m.
The Suns have a half-game lead over Mobile entering today. If Mississippi makes the playoffs, the Braves will be at a disadvantage. For the Braves to make it, Mobile will have won the second-half division title.
Since the BayBears also won the first half, Mississippi gets in because it will have the South Division's second-best overall record. By winning both halves, Mobile would host four of the five semifinal series games with Mississippi, if necessary. The Braves would be home only for Saturday's Game 3.
Mississippi also entered the final day of the season's first half just a half-game off the lead. Obviously, it didn't turn out well for the Braves.
