Kevin Kiermaier has something to distract him from his beloved Purdue's football troubles.
Kiermaier, the Biscuits' player of the year this season, has been promoted to the Rays for tonight's one-game playoff with the Texas Rangers, according to media reports.
Purdue, by the way, fell to 1-4 with last weekend's 55-24 home loss to Northern Illinois. The Boilermakers, who beat Indiana State in early September, have an off week this week before hosting Nebraska.
Kiermaier, promoted to Triple-A Durham in late July, finished one hit shy of winning the Southern League batting championship for the Biscuits. He was also Montgomery's community service nominee.
Kiermaier ended the year with Durham's International League championship ... until today's promotion. Though Kiermaier is unlikely to play, the Rays needed him because center fielder Desmond Jennings is ailing and put Kiermaier on the 40-man roster by relegating reliever Jesse Crain back to the 60-day disabled list.
