The Rays have promoted former Biscuits pitcher Alex Torres back to the big leagues along with first baseman Dan Johnson.
Torres made his major league debut July 18 against the Yankees before returning to Triple-A Durham, where he led the International League in strikeouts -- and walks -- this year. The Rays released right-hander Jay Buente, whom they claimed off waivers this season from Florida.
