Biscuits left-hander Jake McGee won the Southern League's pitcher of the week award today.
It's based on his Friday start that included seven shutout innings, 11 strikeouts and his first victory since Tommy John surgery in 2008. He gave up five hits to the Tennessee Smokies and registered his first win since June 6, 2008, about three weeks before suffering an elbow injury.
Stanhope Elmore High graduate and former Faulkner star Austin Adams was the top pitcher in the Class A Midwest League. Adams gave up three hits over nine shutout innings with no walks and 11 strikeouts for the Lake County Captains.
Durham's Jeremy Hellickson, with his 15 shutout innings over the last week, won the International League's pitching award. He's now a two-timer, having won it for April 12-18.
Chattanooga outfielder Trayvon Robinson was the Southern League's top hitter. He hit three home runs, including two May 24, and was 6-for-21 with five RBIs from May 24-30.
Because of Memorial Day, Minor League Baseball announced the awards on a Tuesday rather than the usual Monday.
