Fields stands tall in Carolina League

Former Biscuits infielder Matt Fields, now with the high-Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Kansas City organization, won the Carolina League's player of the month award for July.

Fields had a .355 average, 13 home runs, 19 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 27 July games. His .794 slugging percentage was the best in all of the minor leagues.

The 27-year-old, who started the year with Southern Illinois in the independent Frontier League, has a .299 average with Wilmington. Fields was with the Biscuits in 2009-10 and hit a combined .233 with 17 homers in 164 games.
