P-Rays take Pulaski Mariners in 23rd inning

The Princeton Rays broke free for four runs in the 23rd inning to beat the Pulaski Mariners 12-9 on Friday in the continuation of Thursday's marathon.

Andrew Toles and Willie Argo were hit by pitches to start the 23rd inning. Both scored when pitcher Brazoban threw away a Oscar Hernandez grounder. Hernandez ended up on third and scored on Reid Redman's single.

Hernandez caught all 23 innings and made 20 putouts. First baseman John Alexander recorded 28 putouts.

Princeton used 10 pitchers, who combined on an 18- 20-hit, 11- 12-walk, 20-strikeout gem. Pulaski sent 101 batters to the plate and stranded 20 on base. The Rays had 98 plate appearances, 15 hits, 13 walks, 18 strikeouts and also 20 LOBs.

Hugo Duarte, though he didn't factor in the decision, threw a team-best 4 2/3 shutout innings with two hits and two walks. Duarte climbed the mound to start Friday's play ... in the 18th inning.
