Thursday: Rays' minor-league roundup

Durham 2, Norfolk 1
Mitch Talbot threw an efficient five shutout innings and five relievers finished off the win. Talbot allowed three hits, walked none and struck out four. He threw 41 pitches, 33 for strikes.

West Tenn 7, Biscuits 6
Johan Limonta hit a two-run single to cap a three-run ninth for the D-Jaxx. West Tenn scored three runs off Neal Frontz in the eighth and three off Eduardo Morlan in the ninth. Starter Jeremy Hellickson threw five shutout innings and Calvin Medlock, the first reliever, had five strikeouts and one homer in his two frames. John Matulia homered. (Some video here. Fort Myers 9, Charlotte 4
Matt Fields homered for the Stone Crabs in their inaugural game. Charlotte gave up five runs in the eighth off right-hander Craig James. Starter Alex Cobb went four innings with three hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.

Bowling Green 8, Hickory 3
Tim Beckham hit the first home run and had three RBIs in the Hot Rods' inaugural game. Beckham hit a solo home run in the fourth for Bowling Green’s first run and a go-ahead, two-run single in the fifth. Catcher Mike McCormick also homered. Starter Matt Moore walked a career-high six and gave up two runs in three-plus innings.
