Former big leaguer headed to Biscuits

Former major leaguer Ryan Garko has been signed by the Rays and will report to the Biscuits, according to the Long Island Ducks, the independent team that Garko was with this year.

Garko played in the majors from 2005-10 with the Indians, Giants and Rangers. His best years were 2007 and '08 with Cleveland. Garko hit .289 with 21 home runs in '07 and .273 with 90 RBIs in '08.

The 31-year-old was hitting .450 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 16 games this year for Long Island. He's primarily been the designated hitter with some time at first base and catcher. He played part of the 2011 season in Korea.

He's expected to make his Biscuits debut in the upcoming road series with Birmingham.
