Tino Martinez says the actions of former Biscuits Justin Ruggiano and Derek Dietrich, among others, are at the heart of why he's no longer the hitting coach for the Miami Marlins.
Martinez, Fox Sports reports, says the two refused (at separate times) to pick up baseballs in the batting cage, which is standard procedure, and Martinez confronted them about it.
Martinez admits physically assaulting Dietrich -- though not to grabbing Dietrich by the neck -- and used vulgarities with each. Martinez resigned Sunday when the incidents became public.
Ruggiano, who is still in the majors, told Fort Lauderdale's Sun Sentinel that he and Martinez "never had an issue about picking up baseballs." Dietrich is back in the minors at Double-A Jacksonville.
