Biscuits center fielder Kevin Kiermaier has been promoted to Triple-A Durham and said he's scheduled to debut with the Bulls on Wednesday.
“I want to stay healthy and finish 2013 on a good note,” Kiermaier said.
The 23-year-old was second in the Southern League with a .307 average and 65 runs scored. He played in his first All-Star Game last week.
In his fourth professional season, Kiermaier has never been promoted in the middle of a season. He did jump from high-Class A Charlotte to the Bulls for the final week of last season to help Durham finish the season. The Bulls were depleted after Tampa Bay's roster expanded Sept. 1.
Due to injuries, he played in just 63 games last year.
After the regular season, Kiermaier came to the Biscuits for the Southern League playoffs.
“It's a surreal feeling getting called up now,” said Kiermaier, who drove to Durham on Tuesday. “I've put so much time and effort into baseball, to finally get my first midseason promotion is such an honor.”
