The Rays have picked up right-handed reliever Jesse Crain in trade from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for players to be named or cash considerations.
Crain is currently on Chicago's disabled list, but he was an All-Star this season. The 32-year-old has an 0.47 ERA in 38 games this year.
He has a career 3.05 ERA in 532 major league games with the Minnesota Twins (2004-10) and White Sox (2011-13).
To make 40-man roster space for Crain, the Rays moved reliever Brandon Gomes to the 60-day disabled list. Gomes, who hasn't pitched for the Rays since May 7 due to a shoulder injury, made a rehab appearance Friday for high-Class A Charlotte.
