Jake Thompson came within one out his first career shutout in the Biscuits' 5-1 victory over the Jacksonville Suns in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
Game 2 should begin around 8:10 p.m.
Thompson (8-9), after giving up two hits in the first six innings, exited after the Suns singled twice in the seventh. He walked two, struck out two and tied a season high with 107 pitches.
The Suns scored on a strikeout/wild pitch after Thompson left.
Robby Price homered in the first inning and Montgomery added four runs in the sixth. Kyeong Kang and Hector Guevara each hit two-run singles.
