Michael Colla threw six strong innings and Curt Casali was 3-for-3 in his Double-A debut to lead the Biscuits in a 6-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.
The nightcap should begin about 9 p.m.
Casali, promoted this week from high-Class A Charlotte, hit an RBI single to cap Montgomery's three-run first inning. His two-out single stoked a three-run sixth. Hector Guevara followed with an RBI double and Robi Estrada a two-run single.
Colla (4-1) gave up five hits with no walks and four strikeouts to win for the first time in four starts. He's 6-of-9 on quality starts since joining the Biscuits in early June.
Chris Gutierrez homered with one out in the sixth inning off Colla, who threw 56 of 79 pitches for strikes. Juan Sandoval worked a perfect seventh, and final, inning.
