Smokies catcher Robinson Chirinos, who had a record-tying performance at Riverwalk in his final game as an infielder in 2008, isn't with the team and will miss this week's series with the Biscuits.
Chirinos suffered a concussion Monday and went on the disabled list today. He took a foul ball off the mask that hit with such force that it bent his hockey-style mask, manager Bill Dancy said.
Chirinos was playing shortstop on May 15, 2008, when he tied a Southern League record with three triples against the Biscuits. On May 16, 2008, he flew to Arizona to learn how to be a catcher. This week would have been his first time back.
Mark Reed came up from high-Class A Daytona and took Chirinos' spot on Tennessee's roster.
