Matt Fields singled home Chris De La Cruz with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Biscuits to a 6-5 win over the Jacksonville Suns on Tuesday.
De La Cruz walked to start the inning, went to second on a Nevin Ashley single and moved to third on a Jonathan Fulton wild pitch. After Cody Cipriano grounded out against a drawn-in infield, Fields singled to right to end it.
Fields also made a crucial play in Montgomery’s four-run fourth inning. On a potential inning-ending double-play groundball, Fields distracted shortstop Osvaldo Martinez enough that the Suns could only get one out. It led to Montgomery’s last two runs of the inning.
Chris Nowak was 3-for-4 with a walk and his first home run.
