Matt Sweeney’s infield single brought home Rashad Eldridge in the 11th inning to give the Biscuits a 6-5 victory over the Birmingham Barons on Friday.
Montgomery pulled into a tie with Jacksonville for first place in the Southern League’s first-half South Division race. Jacksonville’s home game Friday with Mobile was rained out.
Sweeney’s hit came with one out and the bases loaded against a drawn-in infield. Second baseman Dale Mollenhauer made a diving play to stop the ball but was unable to record an out.
The Biscuits scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Chris Nowak’s two-out two-run double tied the game. Montgomery had a chance to win with the bases loaded and two outs, but Sweeney’s foul fly ended the threat.
Eldridge reached base five times and Leslie Anderson homered for Montgomery. Drew Anderson hit a two-run triple.
