Biscuits' Morrison to have Tommy John surgery

Outfielder Ty Morrison has left the Biscuits and will have season-ending Tommy John surgery this month in Florida.

Morrison, 22, said he'll have the surgery May 13 and is expected to be full strength in 2014.

"That's the goal," Morrison said.

Morrison last played April 23 and had a .211 average in 17 games this season. Last year, he hit .269 in 102 games for the Biscuits.

"It's unfortunate, but it is what it is," Morrison said from Port Charlotte, Fla. "This is not one of those things I have control over. I have to work hard in rehab and hopefully come back stronger next year."

In 2011, Morrison suffered a partially torn elbow ligament and played in just 67 games at high-Class A Charlotte.

Morrison said last week that he started feeling pain before a recent game at Tennessee. He had an MRI on Friday and got the results this week. He left for Port Charlotte on Wednesday as the Biscuits left for their current series at Pensacola.

"All last year, it never bothered me," Morrison said. "It's just something that popped up again this year."
