Dietrich promoted to Marlins

Former Biscuits infielder Derek Dietrich has been promoted to the major leagues by the Miami Marlins, one of Dietrich's former minor league teams confirms.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods, part of the Tampa Bay organization and where Dietrich played in 2011, has publicly congratulated Dietrich, who finished last season with the Biscuits. Dietrich went from the Rays to the Marlins in an offseason trade that sent shortstop Yunel Escobar to Tampa Bay.

The Jacksonville Suns, for whom Dietrich had played this season, would only say today that Dietrich is not in their starting lineup for a 12:05 p.m. Central game with Pensacola.

An message on Dietrich's cell phone said it was not accepting incoming calls at this time.

Dietrich was hitting .282 with 16 RBIs and 18 RBIs as Jacksonville's primary second baseman. The Marlins lost second baseman Chris Valaika on Tuesday to a fractured wrist. The Marlins play at San Diego this afternoon at 2:40 Central.

Dietrich is in line to be the 57th former Biscuit to play in the major leagues, the first this season and the first from the 2012 team.
