The Devil Rays removed Biscuits pitcher Chris Seddon from their 40-man roster after Monday's game. That gives Tampa Bay 10 days to trade, release or ask waivers on Seddon, and Seddon won't pitch until they do so.
Montgomery lost pitcher Jose Diaz two years ago when the Rays DFA'd him and Cleveland claimed him.
The Rays made the move after catcher Shawn Riggans went on the disabled list and they brought Raul Casanova to the big leagues from Class AAA Durham. Casanova wasn't on the 40-man, so Tampa Bay had to clear room.
Waivers is a three-day process, so it's possible Seddon could still pitch Thursday -- if the Rays put him on waivers immediately.
