Biscuits third baseman Evan Longoria has been picked to play in this year's All-Star Futures Game, which will be July 8 in San Francisco.
Former Biscuits pitcher Jeff Niemann, who's now with Class AAA Durham, will also play for the U.S. team.
Colby Rasmus, a first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals two years ago from Russell County High, and Justin Upton, the Mobile outfielder who is the younger brother of former Biscuits shortstop B.J., are also on the squad. Rasmus is with Class AA Springfield and is also scheduled to play in next week's Texas League All-Star Game.

How does that work for the Southern League All-Star game whne he elected to that?
The Southern League hasn't named its All-Star teams yet. (I need to send in my vote.)
He should be able to play in both. Delmon Young was in Cleveland for the Futures Game two years ago and made it to Mobile in time for the Southern League game.
Oops. The major-league All-Star Game was in Detroit two years ago. My bad.
Also, upon further review, Longoria may not be able to play in both.
1.) The games are on consecutive days. Two years ago, there were three days between them.
2.) The distance is quite a bit longer from San Francisco to Pearl, Miss., than from Detroit to Mobile.
BayBears catcher George Kottaras did play in both last year, making it from Pittsburgh to Montgomery.
