Former Biscuits outfielder Justin Ruggiano is returning to the major leagues and the Rays.
Tampa Bay has put Ruggiano back on its 40-man roster and promoted him from Triple-A Durham.
Infielder Dan Johnson was designated for assignment.The Rays have also activated relief pitcher J.P. Howell, who last pitched in the majors in 2009, and demoted reliever Rob Delaney to Durham.
Ruggiano, 28, was hitting .308 and slugging .521 for the Bulls. He last played for the Rays in 2008, though he spent four days with the team last June without playing.
