Former major leaguer joins Stone Crabs

Former major leaguer Ramon Ramirez has been signed by the Rays and he's headed to high-Class A Charlotte. The Stone Crabs added him to their active roster today.

Ramirez had an 11.12 ERA in six games with the San Francisco Giants this year before being released June 17. He had appeared in 20 games at Triple-A Fresno and was 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA.

Ramirez, 31, has a 3.42 ERA in 423 career major league games with the Colorado Rockies (2006-07), Kansas City Royals (2008), Boston Red Sox (2009-10), Giants (2010-11 and this year) and New York Mets (2012).

The Stone Crabs have not added Sean Bierman from Bowling Green, likely since he won't be available to pitch for a few days. Bierman started and threw six innings for the Hot Rods on Monday.

Right-hander Eliazer Suero went on Charlotte's disabled list with a forearm injury.
