Chaves checking with doctor; big Rays brass coming

Biscuits shortstop Brandon Chaves says the left elbow he hurt last week at Tennessee no longer pains him and X-rays came back negative. He's supposed to see a doctor and isn't sure when he'll return. Chaves suffered the injury diving for a ball up the middle.

Loads of relatively small Rays brass on hand for today's series opener with field coordinator Jim Hoff, roving catching instructor Jamie Nelson and outfield/baserunning rover Skeeter Barnes on hand.

There is a bigger fish on the way. Gerry Hunsicker, officially Tampa Bay's senior vice president for baseball operations, will be here Thursday for a few days. It's uncertain if he'll have (or will volunteer for) a role in Friday's Rays Night. First pitch, anyone?
